Birdwatching in Guayaquil.

BIRDWATCHING  IN  GUAYAQUIL

Photo credits: me,  myself and I  :)
How long it took me to  get  all  the Guayaquil´s photos?
How many days? weeks? months? hahaha,  it  only  took  me
 TWO  DAYS!!!
Yes there are photos from  other  places,  but  most  of the photos were  taken  in one  park  and in two  days.

So, birdwatching in Guayaquil.  Wow!  this topic really appeals to  me   http://www.guayaquilaguidedvisit.com/
First of all we must say that Guayaquil is by far the most spectacular city for birdwatching in Ecuador .

And the reason is plain and simple. We have more birds right WITHIN the metropolitan area than any other city in Ecuador.

Before we continue talking about Guayaquil and its abundance in birds we must remember that Ecuador is ranked worldwide as one of the top four countries in the world.
Brasil, Peru and Colombia the other three.

Then something interesting must be noted. We're the smallest of the four top countries and that fact produces then the obvious result we're the country with more birds per square mile in the world.

To what do we owe this honor?.
We've talked about this in another upload, the fact that two of the most important oceanic currents meeting right in front of the coasts of Ecuador (the warm current of El Niño and the cold current of Humboldt). Then the geographical location of the country right at the equatorial line = parallel 0.

The mighty Andes cutting in half the country, with the before mentioned coasts on the west side of the mountains and the mighty Amazon jungle on the east. So yeah all these factors add up to a place that has all the weathers imaginable within a few hours car drive.

Back to GUAYAQUIL and why the abundance of birds, there is no place in this city in which if you stop and watch (and there are any kinds of vegetation near you) that you will spot at least half a dozen species within the first two to five minutes.

 Yeah it is UNBELIEVABLE!!

http://www.guayaquilaguidedvisit.com/

THE CITY is crisscrossed by "biological alleys" =avenues with big trees that allow the birds to move around the city in peace from one park, hill, forest to another.

Then the city itself has a longitudinal design with two rivers of its long axis. East side the mighty Guayas river and west the El Salado estuary.

So as you can see the city has all the characteristics needed to be a heaven for birds.
So, what next?
Grab your binoculars, your big fat  camera and  explore!!!

Is it only  Guayaquil paradise for birdwatchers  then?

No,
We must remember  that  Guayaquil is thh gateway  to  the Galapagos islands. All flights going to the Galapagos Islands depart exclusively from Guayaquil and also return to Guayaquil first, which offers travelers the opportunity to explore the city and its surroundings. Any  other notion  when  visiting  the galapagos islands is nonsense, I mean Going to the Galapagos islands and departing from any  other  city? Absurd!  your flight  will  pass by  Guayaquil and only  then  it  will  fly  to  the archipelago, (the same will  happen  on  your way  back  of course)
The weather  in the galapagos? is exactly  the same as  it  is in Guayaquil, altitude of the city? at  the sea level ( just  like the Galapagos) again,  GUAYAQUIL/GALAPAGOS:  THE PERFECT COMBINATION.
But let´s go back  to  birdwatching in Guayaquil and surrounding  areas, to  the east we have the CHURUTE  MANGROVES RESERVE, located  on  25 miles away from  Guayaquil, tight  in the middle of the Guayas river  basin,  with  way  more than  300 species  of birds  registered !!!

andif we go  west 90  miles  towards the coast, we´ll  visit a place with  almost  150 species  of marine birds!!!!

But really,  talking about birdwatching both  in CHURUTE as well  as in the coeast deserve their own  uploads.

So we´ll  have to  wait  for that.

So yeah  final  statement: GUAYAQUIL AND SURROUNDING AREAS,  IS  A PARADISE FOR BIRDWATCHERS
